Curating
The students will work closely with the project's faculty research advisor, Adrienne Ghaly, as well as the Library's Special Collections Curator, Molly Schwartzburg, Exhibits Coordinator Holly Robertson, and preservationists, to choose and display some of their finds, as well as research and write the accompanying textual materials for the exhibition.

The exhibition will open in Fall 2019 in conjunction with the symposium organized by Dr. Ghaly with funding from UVA's Institute of the Humanities and Global Cultures and a Page-Barbour Award, "'Burning the Library of Life.' The Project
This project focuses on locating and exploring materials in the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library related to species extinction for an exhibition, "Extinction in the Archive," to run in Special Collections from September 2019-late December 2019. The first phase of the project is to explore Special Collections, locate texts and images related to species extinction across a wide range of materials. This includes not only the field of natural history, the university's Darwin collection, and Jefferson's interest in relict species, but also the many texts and objects that form the cultural records of extinction in its many manifestations, from trade catalogues to fashion magazines to amateur botanical guides to pop-up books. The second phase is to participate in choosing the items to go in the exhibition and help co-design the exhibition. Read more about the project.
